If you’re raising a future marine biologist—or just have a kid who loves all things wild and wonderful—the Caribbean might be your dream destination. Sure, it’s famous for sea turtles, dolphins, snorkeling, and pelicans, but dig a little deeper and you’ll find unforgettable animal encounters in some of the most beautiful settings on Earth.
Let’s start with Atlantis in the Bahamas. Think part aquarium, part waterpark, part beach resort—with a full marine sanctuary woven through the property. It’s not a wilderness experience, but the access your kids will have to marine life is absolutely incredible.

Atlantis features a series of lagoons where guests can observe and interact with a stunning range of species. In the Ruins Lagoon, you can snorkel through a sunken "city" alongside thousands of fish. In The Dig, you’ll explore an elaborate network of aquariums—don’t be surprised if you spot a mermaid. And if you brave the Serpent Slide in the water park, you’ll end up floating through a clear tube under a lagoon filled with sharks!
For younger guests, The Estuary Lagoon serves as a nursery for baby Southern stingrays, nurse sharks, and cownose rays. It’s designed for easy access and education. At the Stingray Lagoon, your little ones can pet rays in open water. And at the Water’s Edge Lagoon, you can even snorkel alongside a school of cownose rays.

Each day, you can catch scheduled feedings of sharks, rays, turtles, and tropical fish—an exciting experience for animal lovers of any age.
All of this is included in your stay at the resort.

Want to take it further? Atlantis offers add-on animal experiences that go way beyond the usual. Dolphin Cay is a world-class dolphin rehabilitation facility, where you can swim, snorkel, or even kayak with dolphins. For teens (14+), there’s a Sea Life Veterinary Experience, where kids can shadow marine vets as they care for dolphins, sea lions, and even macaws.
For your littlest explorers, the Sea Squirts program (ages 3–6) is a gem. In this 45-minute hands-on class, kids wade into shallow lagoons to meet and feed stingrays, turtles, and fish—no experience necessary, just curiosity and joy.

Of course, Atlantis isn’t just for the animal lovers in your crew. It’s a massive, all-ages resort on Paradise Island, Nassau, offering 141 acres of waterslides and 14 pools, five miles of white-sand beach, and the protected Paradise Lagoon, where you can snorkel, kayak, or paddleboard in calm waters. There’s also a casino, spa, marina, and golf course, plus 46 restaurants, bars, and snack spots ranging from quick eats to fine dining.
Accommodations range from the family-friendly Coral to the luxurious Cove, so there's something for every travel style and budget. Note: Atlantis is not all-inclusive, but the variety of on-property dining makes it easy to tailor to your needs.
If you’re looking for something more low-key and wild, the Caribbean has even more in store.
In Aruba, you can book a day pass to Flamingo Island, a private island just 8 minutes off the coast. Spend the day on a stunning beach surrounded by roaming pink flamingos—it’s every bit as magical as it sounds.

Earlier this year, we visited Turks and Caicos, where we kayaked through mangroves filled with sea turtles, conch, and even nurse sharks. But the real standout? Iguana Island (Little Water Cay), a protected sanctuary for endangered Rock Iguanas. We paddled out and hiked the short trail across the island—my lizard-loving son was in heaven. I had it on the must-do list from day one, and it lived up to the hype.

Whether your family prefers curated, up-close encounters like those at Atlantis, or prefers spotting wildlife in its natural habitat, the Caribbean delivers a dream vacation packed with unforgettable animal moments.
